剑桥高中2020届
8月5日到17日,我参加了英国帝国理工学校组织的全球暑校活动。虽然只有短短的两周时间,但我相识了不少的朋友,也有很多的感触想分享给大家。
From August 5 to 17, I participated in a Global Summer School Programme organized by Imperial College in London, England. Although I only spent two weeks here, I had a lot to share with you.

日程安排大致来说就是白天上课学习,晚上参加活动。活动多种多样,可以选择在校园里锻炼玩耍,也可以去校外购物看电影。总体上每天的时间安排非常紧凑,基本只有1-2个小时的自由活动时间。
Roughly speaking, students needed to attend classes in the daytime and join activities in the evening. There were many kinds of activities. You could choose to exercise and play on campus or go shopping and watch movies outside school. Overall, the daily schedule was very compact, basically only 1-2 hours of free time.

第一天相对比较轻松,我们到达学校后,先是认识了指导老师和同小组的同学,然后晚上进行了破冰活动。第一周学生是根据自己选择的专业方向分专业上课,一共有工程、物理和生物医药三个大类,每一个类别大约有50个人。我选择了生物医药方面的学习,在前两天我在教学实验室里做了两天的实验。
The first day was relatively easy. When we arrived at the school, we first met our mentors and students in the same groups, and then we had an ice-breaking activity in the evening. According to students’ interests, they were divided into three major streams: Engineering, Physical Sciences and Medicine&Life Sciences, and there were about 50 students in each stream. I was in the Medicine&Life Sciences stream. I did two days of experiments in the teaching laboratory the first two days.
实验室的设施很完善,我们两个人一个小组进行实验,每个人需要根据实验步骤自己完成实验,除非有不理解的地方,老师才会来讲解,但是不会帮助学生完成实验。我们做的实验是关于基因检测的,需要通过不同方法去鉴定5个不同特性的同种细菌,学习了电泳(从安装器材到看生成的图像)、PCR等实验操作。
The facilities of the laboratory are perfect. We carried out the experiment in groups of two. Unless we are confused about some steps, teachers will not help the students to complete the experiment. Our experiments are about gene detection. We use different methods to identify five different strains of the same type of bacteria, the E.coli. We learned electrophoresis, PCR and other experimental operations.
这不是我第一次进行这类实验,但却是第一次在没有老师指导下自己根据发的相关资料去完成实验,感受到了挑战性。
This is not the first time that I have carried out this kind of experiment, but it is the first time that I have completed the experiment according to the relevant information without the guidance of the teacher.

第三天我在学校的一个附属医院去体验了医生的工作并学习了一些常用的临床技能。从向病人介绍自己、询问病人信息,到通过对话交流使病人放松、表现关心和乐观的态度,再到下午的抽血、皮下注射、心肺复苏及测心率……
On the third day, we went to an affiliated hospital of Imperial College to experience the work of a doctor and learn common clinical skills. From introducing ourselves to patients, checking patients’ information, to showing caring and optimistic attitudes to patients through dialogue and communication, till taking blood samples, subcutaneous injection, cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) and heart rate measurement…



我深刻地感受到了当医生的不易,作为医生,不仅要有丰富的学术知识,还要学会和病人沟通交流、与同伴在手术时合作,最重要的是可以快速判断当下情况、有超高的心理素质和随机应变的能力。
I realized the difficulty of being a doctor. As a doctor, we should not only have a wealth of academic knowledge, but also learn to communicate with patients and cooperate with peers during the operation. Moreover, the most important thing is that we are expected to quickly judge the current situation, have super psychological quality and the ability to adapt to changes.

第四天早上我们按照大学听课制度听了院长讲解关于泌尿系统的生理知识。课件做的十分精致,课堂的互动也很有趣。休息过后,我们去了一个实验室,用平板电脑自测了之前上课的内容并了解了关于泌尿系统的病理学知识,接着学习并亲自操作了如何使用试纸分析尿检结果。
On the morning of the fourth day, we listened to the dean's lecture on the physiology and pathology of the urinary system. The courseware was well-prepared and the interaction in class was interesting. After the break, we went to a laboratory learned how to use the test paper to analyze the urine test results.
下午分了小组,要求在40分钟之内做一个关于医生说服孕妇打掉高几率患病的孩子的2分钟视频。2分钟内要囊括对唐氏综合征的个人、家庭和社会影响,还要体现医生对孕妇的同情心是非常挑战性的。
In the afternoon, each group was assigned to make a two-minute video about a doctor persuading pregnant women to abort her child with high risk of diseases. It was challenging to include the personal, family and social impact of Down's syndrome, and to show the doctor's sympathy for pregnant women in two minutes.


第二周一整周都是在做另一个小组项目,每个小组要先构造自己的世界观,去想象2039年的世界会是怎么样,并根据“未来愿景”这一主题去设计制造一个简易模型。我们小组的构想是一个帮助传播种子的无人机和网上种子商店。从一开始的互相不赞同、争执,到后来的理解、融合以及最后的齐心协力,我们组的同学都收获了很多。在最后的展示中,我们也做了最大的努力,虽然没有得奖,但我们的想法被很多老师所称赞。
The next week was a whole week of group project. Each group had to construct their own world outlook, imagined what the world will be like in 2039, and designed and built a simple model based on the theme of "Future Vision". Our team's vision is a drone that helps spread seeds and an online seed store. From disagreement and dispute at the beginning to understanding, and final concerted efforts, our group gained a lot. In the final presentation, we did our best. Although we did not win the prize, our ideas were praised by many teachers.
这两周中间我们还参加了几场关于升学的讲座,有专业的老师为学生讲解了关于申请、面试和个人陈述的内容,我也是受益匪浅。
During the two weeks, we also attended several lectures on applying to colleges. Some professional teachers told us some skills at applications, interviews and personal statements. I also benefited a lot from that.

学校也组织了很多的集体活动,比如观看狮子王的电影、广场游玩、游船和观赏歌剧阿拉丁。周末我们去了海边和伦敦眼,体验了伦敦的生活文化。
The school also organized a lot of collective activities, such as watching the Lion King movie, Square visit, cruise and watching the opera Aladdin. We also went to the seaside and London Eye at the weekend and experienced the life and culture of London.

最后一天的晚上,所有师生一起吃了一顿很正式的晚餐,所有人都很舍不得。这是一次特别且难忘的体验,我在这次暑校中认识了很多朋友,了解了不同的文化和生活、教育方式。
On the evening of the last day, all the teachers and students had a very formal dinner together, and everyone was reluctant to part with each other. This is a special and unforgettable experience. I met many friends in this summer school and learned about different cultures, life and educational methods.

通过这次经历,我了解到,上大学后,学生作为个体有很大的自由度,很多事的决定权都在自己手上,学校或老师不会再继续给你硬性的指令或强迫你做什么。所以,时间管理和自我管束能力就显得尤为重要。
Through this experience, I learned that after going to college, students as individuals have a lot of freedom, a lot of decisions are in their hands, schools or teachers will not continue to give you hard instructions or force you to do anything. Therefore, the ability of time management and self-control is particularly important.
其次,学校希望他们的学生可以学习成绩优秀,但更重要的是有一个良好的人格和心理,所以他们也很看重课外活动和社交。
Secondly, schools hope that their students can achieve excellent academic results, but more importantly, students are expected to have a good personality and maintain health, so schools will focus on extracurricular activities and social interaction.

最后,不要畏惧对话,老师和同学都很健谈友善,可能因为老师也是在校学生的缘故,年龄差距并不大,所以相处模式更像是朋友而不是师生,可以没有忧虑地交流。
Finally, don't be afraid of dialogue. Teachers and classmates are very talkative and friendly. Maybe because teachers are also graduates at school, the age gap is not big, we can communicate with them like sharing to friends without worries.
