2020届毕业典礼致辞
There have been many famous journeys down the years. Some are fictional such as Bilbo and Frodo Baggins in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings respectively or Sun Wukong better known as Monkey King and Tang Sanzang in Journey to the West. This last book is in fact based on the real-life journey of XuanZang to India despite the travel ban imposed at the time. He went to study, collect and bring back Buddhist scriptures and like Frodo, Bilbo, Monkey King and Tang Sanzang he too returned to a hero’s welcome after facing many dangers. All of them travelled and battled through the diverse challenges set by the changing seasons and all reached their goals after learning from their experiences.
过去曾有过许多著名的远行。有一些是虚构的，例如霍比特人和指环王中的Bilbo和Frodo Baggins，或者西游记里的孙悟空，也就是美猴王，和唐三藏。第三本书实际上是改编于玄奘西行印度的真实历史。尽管当时的世界关山阻隔，玄奘依然不远万里将佛教经典带回大唐。与小说中的人物Frodo、Bilbo、美猴王以及唐三藏一样，在克服万难返回祖国之时，玄奘也受到了英雄般的欢迎。
Today, you too are setting out on the next stage of your journey. It is the end of your Spring and now Summer starts. In the spring you have been nurtured by people dedicated to getting you ready for summer because summer is when you must take responsibility for your own learning and your own life. In Autumn you will use all the experiences of spring and summer to navigate your way through life in order to set you up for a happy winter, safe with your family in what you have built. Your next spring will be for your children when you will nurture and guide them along their paths just as your parents have done for you.
Let’s just stop to appreciate your parents ok.
The other important people who have helped you through spring are your teachers. Do you realise that for most of you there will never be a teacher in your life again whose only focus is your full time education? University lecturers are mainly there for their own studies and research. More sages for you to listen too and learn from. They won’t see you every day and experience the joys, frustrations and challenges of the classroom. They won’t share the worry and tears of preparing for exams, they won’t be there to celebrate your everyday triumphs and to help you climb the ladder of success. They won’t always be there for you like these people sitting here with the big smiles, the proud looks, the teary eyes and the wet tissues. Not just the teachers but the counsellors, Banzhuren, office staff all guided and supported by Principal Tian Jian, Vice Principal Fang Qing, Ms Ma Hui,Centre Principal Ryan Strugnell and Ms Wang Xiaolin. What a team, your own superheroes.
Let’s just stop to appreciate them too.
今天，你们也正要启航下一程远行。你们人生的春天已经结束，夏天将至。在春天，致力于帮助你们为夏天做好准备的人精心培育了你们，而夏天时你们就需要对自己的学习和生活担起责任。在人生之秋，你们需要用在春天和夏天累积的经验为自己指明方向，努力为自己创造一个能尽享天伦之乐的冬天。而你们的下一个春天将开启于你的下一代，当你也和你父母一样，开始培育和指导他们之时。
让我们暂停一下，向你们的父母表示感谢吧。
另一群在你们人生的春天帮助过你们的人是老师们。你们是否意识到，对你们大多数人来说，以后再也不会有老师全部的焦点就是关注你们的教育？大学讲师们的主要关注点是他们自己的学习和研究。还有更多需要你们聆听和学习的。他们不会每天都与你们见面，与你们一起感受课堂上的欢乐、烦恼与挑战。他们不会分享你们因备考而生的焦虑和眼泪，也不会与你们一起庆祝你们每天的小小成绩并帮助你们攀登成功的阶梯。他们不会像现在坐在台下，带着大大的微笑、自豪的表情、湿润的眼眶的这群人一样，随时随地都与你们同在。这群人不仅包括外教老师，还包括在田间校长、方青副校长、马辉主任、学术校长RyanStrugnell、中心副主任王小林等带领的升学指导、班主任、行政老师们。这一个团队，是你们的超级英雄。
让我们再次暂停一下，向他们表示感谢。
So, what does summer hold for you? Are these daring young explorers sitting here in front of me ready for what they are heading off into?
Well first you can be sure Spring has prepared you or you wouldn’t be sitting here. So be confident.
Second, you are top class scholars or you wouldn’t be sitting here. So, look smart!
Third, every single person in this room is proud of you right now. So, smile.
You are our pride and joy, our gift to the world… so… look out world, the class of 2020 are coming!
Enjoy your summer, your university life but always remember what you learnt here. This will always be your home.
Remember if you cannot learn from yourself how can you expect to learn from others?
Never forget where you come from, share your family, your school, your country and your culture with the world and make it a better place for all of us.
You are our candles for the world and go and make us proud… burn bright and burn long…

所以，人生之夏会带给你们什么？坐在我面前的这一群年轻的探索者们，你们是否已经为即将开始的远行做好准备？

尽情享受你们的人生之夏和你们的大学生活，但是请永远记住你们在这里学会的一切。这里，石室中学，将永远是你们的家。
请记住，如果你无法从自身学习，那么如何向他人学习？
请永远不要忘记你的来处。请与世界分享你的家庭，你的学校，你的国家和你的文化。用你的力量，让世界变得更美好。
你们是我们为世界点亮的蜡烛。去吧，去燃烧自己成为我们的骄傲，去明亮而持久的燃烧吧！
