10月16日,中午1点,石室剑桥高中接待了来自英国利兹大学的招生官Mr.Sam Miles以及Professor Tao Jing。招生官Mr.Sam Miles给学生作了利兹大学的介绍,Tao Jing教授则带来了一堂精彩生动的商业demo课。

利兹大学位于英国第二大金融城市利兹市中心,其校史可追溯至建于1831年的利兹医学院,在1904年获英国国王爱德华七世正式授予利兹大学的名号。
2020年度QS世界大学排名日前正式公布,利兹大学依旧凭借领先的科研水平和卓越的教学质量,稳居全球百强,排名世界第93位。
众所周知,利兹大学的商学院是一所声誉卓著的顶尖商学院,在2014年英国政府颁布的“科研卓越框架(REF)”中被评为全英前十的科研驱动型商学院,同时也是全球少数AACSB,AMBA和EQUIS三重认证商学院之一,时常收获来自《金融时报》、QS世界大学排名和《经济学人》等权威媒体的高度评价。


这次的demo课对于学生来说,尤其是倾向于选择商科的学生来说是一个十分难得的机会。高二学生Cecile Li听了demo课后给我们提交了反馈:
Visit from Mrs Tao Jing from Leeds University
On October the 16th we spent around fifty minutes with Mrs Tao Jing from the UK. She has given an impressive speech for potential business people in our centre. Mrs Tao works as a professor at Leeds University. She has a doctorate degree in Business Management. She has been a tutor of students studying toward their master’s degree in a marketing related field.
Mrs Tao focused mainly on international business transactions, which is related to the A2 Business and A2 Economics syllabi. However, I discovered some overlaps with my AS Business knowledge, which excited me and encouraged me to listen and to participate. She also introduced concepts that were completely new to all Business students, such as ‘power distance.’
Mrs Tao was very thoughtful. In order to help us have a better understanding, she linked theory to practical cases, particularly Chinese brands, including Tencent, Huawei, Taobao...
I remember one thing she consistently pointed out: the necessity of critical thinking. If a business consistently avoids the global trends, it will eventually be sifted out through selections and competitors. During the initial stages of becoming a multinational company, it will face difficulties with regards to cultural differences and the buying behaviour of consumers in the different countries. Before entering a market in another country, it is essential that the business does proper research. There are various ways to enter the international market: exporting, strategic alliances and direct investment. It depends on the sector of industry, as well as the objectives of the business. All four P’s (product, price, place and promotion) of the marketing mix should also be considered carefully.
I was inspired by Mrs Tao’s knowledge and self-confidence. I consider her a good example of an effective communicator.
